God Knows Our Needs

One day I was feeling overwhelmed. I was confused about what decisions to make, and I was feeling lost in my thoughts. It was hard for me to stop overthinking and to make a decision on what to do next. I remember just praying for next steps, asking Him to reveal what He wanted me to do. What came next wasn’t expected, He impressed upon me to “walk” with Him. I love walking, but this particular day, walking was the furthest thing from my mind. I was going back and forth through my to-do list, struggling to prioritize. To my surprise, He suggested to walk with Him.

Walking is my form of exercise. When I walk outside, especially at a park or very wooded area maybe with a body of water, I feel so connected to God. In His goodness and loving nature, He reminded me of that and invited me to do it with Him. He wanted to spend time with me. I remember this encounter sparked an new excitement in me because this was the first time I recognized God inviting me to spend time with Him just because he wanted to be in my presence, and He knew I needed to intentionally be in His presence.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. -Matthew 11:28-29 NKJV

Going on that walk set the tone for the rest of my day. Afterward, I had peace, clarity, and direction. I remember feeling at ease and flattered at God’s intentionality with me. I felt loved, seen, and settled. What God revealed during that encounter with me was:

  • He wanted me to be with Him

  • He knew I needed the peace and rest only His presence could offer

  • He knew I needed the benefit of physical activity, fresh air, and the beautiful scenery

  • He wanted me to know He would help me quiet my soul if I was intentional to seek Him and be with Him

  • He wanted me to know my FIRST priority was being in His presence

It’s moments like my walk with God that when we lean into them, we get fresh glimpses of His goodness. If we are not careful and we overlook these moments, we can miss opportunities to experience God in new and intimate ways.

Until the next one, “Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling.” Psalm 2:11 NKJV
